On a glorious autumnal afternoon, 26 golfers featured in another keenly contested Old Boys Tournament. The welcome and support offered to the association by Monmouthshire Golf Club along with the excellence of the course was much appreciated.

Once again several golfers travelled some distance to compete, with Lyndon Stockham once again travelling from Dorchester, Dr Andrew Meredith from Malvern and David Exton from Cirencester.

The atmosphere and camaraderie between all those present, as always, was really special and it is hoped that in the future more old boys will shower greater commitment to enter future competitions as numbers have steadily declined over the last 10 years.

As the score cards came in, it became obvious that one golfer had really stolen the show and it was pleasing that Mike Powell, who has been a staunch supporter of this event over the years, was to be crowned 2010 Old Boys Player of the year.  Playing off a handicap of 13, Mike recorded an excellent stableford score of 39 points. Starting with 4 pars in a row, and a birdie on the 8th, he scored 23 points off the first 9 holes. Along with his playing partner Roddy Jones, they dovetailed perfectly together to post a team score of 45 points, several points ahead of their nearest rivals.

Other rounds to note were Huw Bowden, 38 points playing off 11, Jonathan Davies winning the

higher handicap prize with 32 points and new comer Alan Wright winning the 16-20 handicap also with 32 points. Nearest the pin was won by Steve Lisberel and longest drive by Roddy Jones. Once again the ebullient Roddy Jones won the post prandial joke telling competition with his joke being selected by the president Antony.

After 5 years it is time to pass on the baton of KHS OBA Golf Secretary. I would like to pay tribute to all those golfers who have regularly competed in the competition, to Adrian Green and Chris

Breakwell with their help on the days of the competition and to David Evans for his contribution as master of ceremonies.  I believe the advent of email, the job of golf secretary is now more manageable and I hope my successor enjoys the role as much as I have.
